
Sooners No. 16 in Preseason Coaches Poll
NORMAN — The University of Oklahoma football team will begin the 2024 season ranked 16th in the US LBM Coaches Poll, which was released Monday. The Sooners are entering their third year under head coach Brent Venables.
This marks the 25th consecutive year OU has been ranked in the annual preseason coaches poll. The Sooners have been ranked in the top 20 in each of those years.
The Sooners are one of 10 Southeastern Conference squads in this year’s preseason coaches poll. Georgia is ranked No. 1, Texas No. 4, Alabama No. 5, Ole Miss No. 6, Missouri No. 11, LSU No. 12, Tennessee No. 15 and Texas A&M No. 20. SEC members Kentucky, Florida and South Carolina are among teams receiving votes.
The top 10 consists of No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Ohio State, No. 3 Oregon, No. 4 Texas, No. 5 Alabama, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 7 Notre Dame, No. 8 Michigan, No. 9 Penn State and No. 10 Florida State.
The Sooners match up against six of the other nine SEC schools ranked in the preseason poll, including three that are in the top six and six in the top 15. Oklahoma also plays at Auburn and hosts South Carolina and American Athletic Conference member Tulane, which also received votes in Monday’s poll.
OU, which went 10-3 in 2023 and finished No. 15 in the coaches poll, opens the 2024 season Friday, Aug. 30, against Temple at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman. The Sooners will play seven home games, and limited tickets are still available at SoonerSports.com.
