How in the world is week 5 already here? It really is messed up how fast the football season flies by. It feels like three days ago I was tweeting every other day how excited I was for football to start… well here we are. Enjoy while we have it… although it is still September as I write this, football will be over before we know it. Always enjoy the moment in life, but especially enjoy the moment during football season. With that said, here are my five favorite college football bets going into week 5.
Washington -2
My T&W Tire Lock of the Week is the Huskies covering two against the Bruins of UCLA this Friday night in a late kick (9:30pm). Michael Penix Jr. was written off last season at Indiana as he was not very productive, but he has had found new life this season as the Washington quarterback. His QBR is 17th in the country and he’s thrown for 1,388 yards which is second in the country. I’ll take the Huskies on the road in front of 300 fans at the Rose Bowl.
Arkansas +17.5
Duh, always bet the Hogs to cover. Usually I bet the Hogs because they are so good at covering, but this week I actually love what Arkansas can bring to the table. For as big as a juggernaut Alabama is, they have struggled in road games. In four of their last five away games they have only beaten Florida by two, lost to A&M, won by two against Auburn and won by a point against Texas. I think Alabama wins this game, but in a what will be a hostile Fayetteville crowd, I think the Razorbacks put up a strong fight.
Minnesota -12
Minnesota is for real guys. They just put a WHOOPING on Michigan State last weekend in East Lansing and have hopes to wind up in Indianapolis as the Big Ten West Champs with a chance to play for a spot in the College Football Playoff. Don’t be surprised if the Gophers go into conference championship week 12-0 or 11-1. They see the opportunity they have ahead, so I will take the Gophers -12 over Purdue this weekend. Row The Boat and Ski-U-Mah!
Utah -10.5
Same reason I took the Utes last weekend applies this week. Utah plays Oregon State at home and Utah still has chances to make the playoff if they win out and win out convincingly. They are not going to mess around much as their goal depends on it. Gimme the Utes in this game and to the Big 12!
LSU -8
Tigers vs Tigers week. LSU heads to Auburn this week to face off a soon-to-be dead in the water Auburn team. If you’ve watched Auburn, you know they are HORRIBLE. They should have lost to Mizzou at home last week but by the weird juju Jordan-Hare Stadium they somehow survived it. I think LSU is about to go ahead and put Auburn and Bryan Harsin out of their misery this week and end that weird relationship once and for all. LSU in a blowout Saturday, Harsins house for sale Sunday.
