All eyes will be on the Oklahoma defense when the Sooners have their annual spring game at Memorial Stadium. A year ago was a massive disappointment for this tradition-rich program. OU suffered its first losing season since the 1998 campaign. The year was tough for first year coach Brent Venables. When he was brought in from Clemson there were high hopes for the defense. Venables was considered the premier defensive assistant coach in the country at Clemson. His magic did not work at OU as the Sooners were one of the worst defensive teams in the country. So the focus in the spring game that people will want to see is how much improvement there will be on the defensive side of the ball.

Last year’s spring game was incredible. Biggest crowd ever in Norman. Biggest crowd in the nation for any spring game. Life was good in Norman. And then the real season happened. Nobody thought a 6-7 season was on the horizon.
So, here we are again. It’s time for another Spring Game. And it’s time for another Heisman Statue presentation, this time for Kyler Murray. But, unlike last year, the Sooners won’t be showcasing a new starting quarterback. They will however be able to showcase a new quarterback. We’ve seen Dillon Gabriel. And, he’s clearly QB1. But, Jackson Arnold is the future. And seeing what he’s all about for most OU fans is worth the price of Spring Admission.
