Game Previews from The Animals

“The Legend” Al Eschbach: It’s a new season and a new era. That’s what Oklahoma faces as they open their 2024 football campaigns this weekend. OU hosts Temple in a rare Friday night game. Sooner fans are nervous heading into this season. Why? Well winning conference championships in the Southeastern Conference will not be quite as easy as it was in the Big 12. OU heads into the encounter ranked 16 in the first Associated Press poll.

Matt Meyer/Gameday Producer: One of the most interesting and anticipated seasons in the history of Oklahoma football is upon us as the Sooners get set to host the Temple Owls this Friday inside Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. OU is a preseason top 20 team with plenty of reasons to be optimistic, but the Sooners also have some questions to be answered. Will Jackson Arnold protect the football better than he did in the Alamo Bowl loss to Arizona? Can an offensive line with five new starters gel and be a productive group? Has Oklahoma turned the corner defensively with All Americans Danny Stutsman and Billy Bowman anchoring that side of the ball? Will a young group of defensive linemen help the Sooners pressure opposing QB’s better than in recent seasons? Then there’s the schedule, which features six opponents ranked in the top 15. Oklahoma has three non conference games to gear up for their first season in the SEC, starting with Temple on Friday. The Owls have had four consecutive losing seasons, the last three of which have ended with a 3-9 record. Sooners have had some injuries this preseason in a deep receiving corps and a not so deep offensive line, but Temple shouldn’t provide much resistance for OU in week 1. Oklahoma 45 Temple 17.
